I always have liked the looks of other bikes chromed fork covers, our Classics are a "brushed" stainless I guess, is the best way to describe it...actually sheet stainless has a natural grain, and that's what we see, fine for a kitchen sink, but not for our bikes...

So I took mine off, took them to a local plater / polisher, who told me because of the type stainless it is, he couldn't guarantee the finish, but...that he could polish them instead...

He did all four for $50, and I got them back next business day...I have since added about two more hours "fine" polishing them at home, a new polish wheel on my 6" bench grinder, and some high gloss compound. That followed by a wipedown with liquid Mothers chrome polish, then finally wiped with a clean cotton cloth (NEVER paper towels) and glass cleaner.

By the way. let the pros do most of the work as I did....they have the industrial equipment that really knocks down stainless, that we at home would likely give up on....pay the few bucks and let them do it right...

I'm pleased with the results...
